Trauma and Peak Performance. Clearing the past, to get in the Zone.
Tapping Into the Zone: Transcending Trauma
Releasing the neurological imprint of past traumas is the most powerful thing you can do to achieve peak performance in all areas of your life. I have often seen clients who have done a lot of prior work to heal their past traumas. Some of them have made great improvements, learned to accept and cope with the past and gained insight and wisdom, and yet still may be automatically triggered by certain things that remind them of their past.
Trauma is a Neurological Issue. Being triggered in this way is something that is completely beyond conscious control. It can be anything - an aspect of a sport, a smell, the tone of someone's voice, a word, or a certain type of social situation. The trigger may be obvious, or can be completely outside your awareness. But the result is the same: a sudden, unpleasant emotional reaction that overrides all attempts to remain calm and clear-headed. This is because trauma is a neurological issue. It is the primal part of the brain - not the rational thinking part - that holds onto the trauma memories and triggers an emotional reaction, creating stress and tension. It's an instinctive survival response and it is wired that way, and can last a lifetime, and even get worse as times goes by - unless it is neutralized and released.
'Emotional trauma is the energetic imprint
that remains after an injury, accident, or sudden loss.'
This is the reason that I love using EFT (Tapping) and meditation as tools for healing trauma. Tapping (and other Energy Psychology techniques) create new neural pathways so that traumatic thoughts that were once frequent, automatic, repetitive and emotionally charged, simply fade away, or can be remembered with a completely calm or neutral feeling.
Whether you've had severe trauma from childhood, or simply encountered a personal loss, a stressful event or a defeat of some kind, the cost of not releasing it completely, may be lack of confidence, anxiety, phobias, lack of clarity, poor concentration, low energy, or insomnia. Unresolved traumas is often a huge barrier to peak performance, and can also cause indecisiveness, avoidance, fear of taking new risks, or a fatalistic, pessimistic outlook. It can often even manifest as a fear of success - because if you climb too high, you may feel like you are setting yourself up for another big loss. For some, it is simply a fear of failure or repeated loss, that keeps them from being fully engaged, present, and functioning at peak performance. Unresolved traumas are stored in the subconscious and cannot be fully resolved without an effective mind-body method of releasing and reprogramming the mind at that subconscious level.
If the subconscious mind is not fully aligned with your conscious goals, intentions and efforts, then you will continue to encounter obstacles and be unable to attain peak performance.
If you're ready to let go of the past, and you recognize that your past traumas are slowing you down, making you sick, causing you pain, or destroying your potential for happiness, success and peace of mind... then now is a great time to commit to doing the inner work that will reprogram your subconscious mind and transform your future.
We each have the seeds of greatness within us - the power to manifest beauty in the world - the power to be of service to the world - the power to awaken to your own divine nature... in whatever way is unique to each of us. It is a terrible loss to hold back and hide our light from the world and from ourselves. Removing the blocks to the awareness of the true and untarnished Self is the only work that must be done in order to be your best, and enjoy the highest level of peak performance in all aspects of life.
